The Far South Region includes Dover and the area south to Cockle Creek, along the most southern parts of Tasmania. Cockle Creek is the most southerly town in Australia. This tiny seaside town and port is about 90 km south of Geeveston. The area is ideal for a summer swim, diving, bushwalking, picnics or camping. It is also the start, or the finish, of the South Coast Track, one of Tasmania's most exceptional bushwalks. The track starts at Cockle Creek and follows the wild southern coastline of Tasmania. It crosses two set of mountain ranges and passes through open plains inland from the coast, but follows the coast along beaches, whenever it can. The track ends at Melalueca isolated within the South West National Park and the only access is by boat or light aircraft chartered from Hobart. Dover's main industries are salmon farms, abalone and cray fishing, and apple orchards. Dover lies at the head of Esperance Bay and overlooks the islands of Faith, Hope and Charity. The local appealing features include the Ida Bay scenic railway, the Hastings Cave State Reserve, with its natural thermal pool and the Hastings Forest and Cockle Creek tour.
